Jim Mark


Jim began employment in the Australian Military as an Army Apprentice (27th intake - class of 1972). He studied as a Radio Trade Apprentice for 4 years and was then posted to 4th Signal Regiment in Brisbane. He worked in Brisbane as an Electronics Technician until he was posted to the Army School of Signals as an Instructor in 1979.

Jim worked as an instructor until 1982 when he spent a full year at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology completing a Certificate of Technology (Electronics). During 1982, Jim developed his first computer based learning system using Vic20 and Vic64 computers.

Jim resigned from the Army in 1985 and began work as a TAFE teacher at Bendigo TAFE. In 1987, Jim completed his Teaching Degree at Hawthorn Institute of Education. During this time, Jim developed his 2nd system using programs called Tutor and Manager.

Jim developed some 1500 courses in the areas of Electronics and Mathematics using Tutor and Manager. He also implemented a very successful Flexible Learning centre at Bendigo TAFE.

In 1995, Jim left on a teaching exchange to Seneca College in Toronto, Canada where he duplicated the Flexible Learning centre using Tutor and Manager. Whilst in Canada, Jim developed his 3rd Learning Management System in partnership with Nathan Thiyagarajah.

On his return to Australia in 1996, work began on the Internet version of the other 3 Learning Management Systems systems which eventually became WebTrain. All 4 systems have the same functionality. The only difference are the delivery mediums and software platforms they are delivered with.

Jim has been heavily involved in using technology in the classroom since 1979. He brings with him vast experience in how to develop practical E-Learning systems and materials.
